Home Leasing and Home Leasing Services are private companies owned by the Nelson Leenhouts family. Home Leasing began its focus on affordable housing in 2005 when Nelson Leenhouts stepped down as Co CEO of Home Properties. Home Leasing is now led by President Cathy Sperrick and Nelson Leenhouts, as Chairman. Home Leasing Services is a construction company and is led by President Todd Goodwin and Nelson Leenhouts, as Chairman. Development in New York State is supported by Edgemere Development as a joint venture partner and development in Pennsylvania and Maryland is lead by Cheryl Stulpin, Home Leasing's Vice President of Development. Most affordable housing communities are partially funded by investors who benefit from Low Income Housing Tax Credits.
The company currently manages apartment properties in Rochester, Buffalo and the Southern Tier and planned communities in Gananda and Canandaigua.
Our History
Home Leasing Corporation was founded in 1967 by twin brothers, Norman and Nelson Leenhouts. For more than 25 years, Norman and Nelson grew Home Leasing Corp. into a substantial real estate business with a diversified portfolio of single family homes, apartments and commercial properties. After years of success, Norman and Nelson formed Home Properties, which became a public company 1994 that is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol HME. Upon going public, Home Properties purchased the all of the apartment properties and management duties from Home Leasing Corp.
In 1996, Home Properties joined forces with Conifer Realty, LLC. From 1996 to 2000, Nelson oversaw all property management and development of the entire affordable housing division of the company. From 1994 until 2003, Norman and Nelson served as joint CEO’s of Home Properties, and Norman and Nelson have sat on the board as Co-Chairs since 2003.
In 2004, Home Properties transitioned its affordable housing and commercial real estate back to Norman and Nelson. In 2006, Home Leasing split the affordable housing and commercial business, with Norman’s family forming Broadstone Real Estate and taking over all of the commercial properties, while Nelson’s family formed Home Leasing, LLC, and took over the affordable housing and single family portion of the business.
